Originally one of the first suburbs in Charlotte, Sedgefield originally was built one block outside of the city limits. It formed along the rail lines heading south out of the city where cow pastures once stood. Originally developed in the 1940's and 1950's, most homes are smaller sized 2 and 3 bedroom homes with anywhere from 800 to 2400SF. Today, this area is being revitalized as it is in close proximity to SouthPark, Uptown and new light rail developments. This area remains a popular part of town with easy access to shopping, restaurants and the Uptown. Local School assignments currently include; Sedgefield Elementary, Sedgefield Middle and Myers Park High School.

The Sedgefield neighborhood extends South from Ideal Way to Hartford Ave . It is bound by South Blvd to the West and Park Road to the East.

This area is within walking distance to: EB Moore Park, Sedgefield Park, and a variety of shops and restaurants along South Blvd.

The Trolley/Light Rail line will have a stop serving this area along South blvd at Ideal Way.
